Depression
Feeling down from time to time is a normal part of the process of life. But when emptiness and hopelessness take hold and won't go away, it may be depression. Depression can make you feel helpless, despair, or empty and numb. Some people describe depression as “living in a black hole”.
Some symptoms of depression can include the following:
-
Feelings of helplessness and hopelessness
-
Loss of interest and or pleasure in daily activities
-
Appetite or weight changes
-
Sleep changes
-
Anger or irritability
-
Loss of energy
-
Self-loathing
-
Reckless behavior
-
Concentration problems
The key to recovery is to start with small changes and take things one day at a time. Feeling better takes time, but you can get there if you make positive choices for yourself each day and draw on the support of other people.
